Each laundry department has a basic cycle flow chart of operation with the following 8 steps on my Hospitality Cleaning 101 laundry graph.
- Collection
Carefully remove the linen from where it was last used. The linen should be handled correctly so that it does not sit around and possibly gets dirtier. It sounds funny. However, never let anyone use the linen to pick up spills or aid in cleaning other areas.
- Transport
Avoid dragging or letting it fall on the floor, especially if the floor is damp or wet. It the cart is made of metal, please look for rust or sharp objects that can tear or damage the linen.
- Sort
The laundry area for sorting should be away from where the clean linen is being stored or too close to the washers. Sort by linen types and or colors first. Heavy soiled items should be pre spotted possibly with a chemical in advance
- Wash
Use proper wash cycles. Do not allow employees to shorten cycles. Load the machine to the recommended weight for best results. Running half loads adds extra water, dilutes the chemicals and reduces mechanical action and will result in a poorer quality end result. Check chemical levels in advance to make sure you have them all available for the rest of the day.
- Drying
Use the proper temperature control first. Each fabric needs to sit on a certain time and temperature. One size does not fit all on this and you need to get it right otherwise, you will over dry, waste energy, set wrinkles and shorten the life on the fabric.
All cycles should have a gradual cool down process to aid in the reduction of wrinkles
- Fold
Immediately after the removal from the dryer, the folding process should begin. Sometimes it is automated; however, it not then frequently it helps to have one than one person if possible. During this process, you should be looking for stains and or worn and torn items as well.
- Store.
If possible linen actually needs time to rest, which helps many factors, including the reduction of wrinkles.
- Clean Up
Clean all equipment, carts, tables, and floors at the end of each day. During each shift, lint traps should be checked on the dryers and chemical levels checked. Thanks for reading (Laundry Flow Chart of Operation), Keep visiting for m ore updates.
