This is the perfect time to give a book for the upcoming holiday season because people are bombarded with advertisements and requests for many materialistic things around the holidays. While there’s nothing wrong with receiving or giving material possessions, sometimes giving a gift that will last longer than just one season is excellent. Do you have a drawer or place in the closet that holds such items? If so, you know what I am saying as an example. We want something the recipient can keep and return when giving a gift. A book is the perfect example of such a gift.
The other evening my stepdaughter called and asked what I wanted for Christmas. I told her I would get back to her, and when I did, days later, I asked for a book. You see, I had a couple of newer ones here I hadn’t even started yet; however, I was reading a specific title on my kindle and, for many reasons, wanted a hard copy. In addition, hard copies are great for putting notes in when references are needed to be saved or highlighted for a possible future project.
With that, I have come up with a list of reasons you possible should give a book as a gift this holiday season:
-
Books Make Great Conversation Starters
Giving a book as a gift is a great way to start a conversation. It can be as simple as, “I read this book and thought you might like it.” From there, you can chat about what you liked about the book, what other people thought of it, and so on. Since there are books on every subject and place known to man, finding one should not be hard. With that said, if you are getting one specific title, research it to ensure it aligns with your thinking. For example, “The Catcher in the Rye” has nothing to do with baseball.

Books Help Expand Your Mind
One of the best things about reading is that it helps broaden your perspective. By reading about different topics, you can learn new things and gain a new understanding of the world. Possibly your recipient is taking a trip or starting a new hobby. Reading is the habit of highly successful people, including Warren Buffett, who is known to read 8 hours a day.

Books Are the Gift That Keeps on Giving
Books never expire, unlike material possessions that can wear out or go out of style. They can be read repeatedly, and you’ll likely discover something new each time you re-read them. The writings of Mark Twain are just as essential today as they were when I was younger.
-
Books Make Great Gifts for Any Occasion
Books can also be given as gifts for any occasion. A book can also make the perfect gift for a birthday, graduation, or even Christmas! It is always nice to give the gift of knowledge and wisdom. A book is one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give someone. A book shows that you care about the person enough to put time and effort into finding something essential and valuable for them.
-
The Cost of a book is an actual bargain
Have you seen the cost of a shirt or sweater lately? See, with a book, you need not worry about its size or favorite color. The value of a book and knowledge in just one book might be equal to a Degree in College, and what is that current cost?

Books can change a life
Here are a few life-changing books that may do the trick: Please allow me to share four.
The Bible – This ancient book has helped shape the lives of billions of people over the centuries. It’s a source of wisdom, comfort, and inspiration for many and can be a powerful tool for personal growth.
Alcoholics Anonymous – This book is a cornerstone of the AA program, which has helped millions of people, including myself, overcome addiction. It’s a candid, first-hand account of what it’s like to battle alcoholism and provides invaluable insight and guidance for those struggling with the disease.
The Happiness Project – In this New York Times bestseller, author Gretchen Rubin chronicles her year-long quest to boost her happiness levels. She learns what makes her happy through a series of small, achievable goals.
The Wellness Warrior – Drawing on her battle with cancer, Adrian Lee offers an approach to staying healthy, happy, and vibrant. With a focus on nutrition, anxiety, and sleep, Lee’s book will inspire you to live a better life.

An Amazon Gift Card comes to the rescue
With so many choices, they can choose the book they want and even the reviews beforehand. Then, if they own a kindle or e-reader, they can purchase it immediately.
In Summary
I would not recommend it as a gift; however, my favorite is to combine the book with an Audible reading of it because I drive so much, and it is better than the news on my car radio. Speaking of gifts for yourself, check out your local library because you might be surprised by the free downloads of both books and Audibles.
Thanks for reading my article, and I hope you get a book for the holidays.
Please send me an email and tell me your favorite book as well so I can check it out.
