Preparing A Schools Kitchen After Summer Break: After a long period of summer holidays or winter vacations, you pack up and get ready to start off with your school. Students usually enjoy their vacations but the school staff has to join back early as they have to plan ahead for the students to have a pleasant and comfortable school term. The administration has to look after a lot of things ranging from school curriculum to class maintenance but one of the most important sectors of concern to look after is the foodservice of the cafeteria. School’s management needs to ensure that quality standards are met and the environment of the cafeteria is safe for the children to enjoy their break time. A cafeteria is a place that needs to remain well sanitized because the food served over there is something consumed by the students and no principal ever wants to see her student sick or complaining to their parents.
Health inspectors have claimed about various health violations taking place in the cafeteria causing the student body to get sick. There are a lot of things that need to be improved and worked on before the students arrive.

- It all starts from the kitchen because all the major cooking is done over there. All the utensils are properly sanitized and the counters are cleaned from every corner.
- Any refrigerator or food storage container needs to be properly cleaned without leaving any moist areas because this might cause the growth of fungi or algae. Any savage food product is being removed so that new items can be used once the semester starts.
- Another important thing that needs to be checked in the kitchen is the hood found above the stove. No one wants to see smoke circulating in the cafeteria or constant heat building up. This is hazardous for both the kitchen staff and the students. You need a proper cross over of air so that the steam and fumes take a different route.
- The dish machine needs to be checked out by a professional and checked that proper chemicals are being injected. Dishes and trays need to come out clean, sanitized and as dry as possible before putting away.
- The next thing to focus on is the floor. Kids usually mess around and throw bits and pieces of food on the floor and sometimes because they are oily they remain stuck on it. These greasy leftovers need to be moped with a cleaning solution so that all kinds of bacteria are removed. During the summer, the floors are stripped and waxed so that when the next batch of kids comes in they can see it sparkling.
- The dining tables need to be cleaned and sanitized with odorless cleaning solutions or the students might feel irritated to eat there. Bleach should never be used for that reason.
A well-planned schedule is devised to perform all these tasks and maintain healthy premises in the cafeteria to regulate proper food service. If you enjoyed this guide (Preparing A Schools Kitchen After Summer Break) please share.
