Slips and Falls in Restaurants: Working in a restaurant doesn’t require you to wear any kind of body protection wear although there is a high chance of getting injured. You might have seen people trip and fall just because the floor was moped and was still wet or you might stumble on the peeking corner of a counter. Restaurants have to face scenarios like these almost every day. You will often see a lot of running inside the restaurant, there are various employees working in a confined space, taking orders and preparing foods which makes the slips and falls inevitable. These incidents can be ignored but sometimes they might result in serious injuries; that is why the management of the restaurant needs to pay attention to a few things. This will ensure the safety of the employees and you might not have to lose valuable employees and customers of your restaurant.

Things that are a threat

The ongoing service of a restaurant can’t actually afford this type of occurrence because if a chef or a waiter falls he/she might have to stop working this means that the food will not reach the customer’s table on time. This will harm the reputation of the restaurant affecting your sales and revenue. This makes you wonder that a small trip in the commercial kitchen can cost you so much. The following conditions can cause tripping incidents:

  • Slippery and greasy floors that are not cleaned.
  • Dry dust or powder that might have spread across the floor.
  • All the uneven or sloped walking surfaces that are exposed.
  • Floors that are freshly polished or waxed before the opening of a restaurant.
  • Rugs or mats that are not fixed to the floors.
  • Transitioning locations that connect one type of flooring to another.
  • Shoes that have mud or water on the soles
  • Cables or wires that are passing on the floors and are not tied back.
  • Drawers or cabinets that are open.
  • Metal surfaces- dock or construction counters

Measures to be adopted

It is not only the responsibility of the restaurant management to initiate these steps to avoid falls and trips but the employee himself should be aware of what to do in circumstances like this so that damages are minimized.
